Piffa Schroder was born in Jerusalem, in the then British Protectorate of Palestine, in a German hospice, to Irish parents. This somewhat discombobulated start to life repeated itself throughout most of her youth, when her father's military and subsequent Foreign Office career entailed the family's moving endlessly between Ireland, England, Europe and postings further afield.
Consequently, Piffa was raised as a child in Co. Wicklow before embarking on an interestingly diversified education in a great number of establishments in Ireland, France, England and Egypt. She somehow managed to end up at Oxford, reading English at Lady Margaret Hall.
Piffa began shooting when she got married. Since then she has shot regularly with a rifle in Britain and abroad, and for some two dozen years competed annually in Match Rifle meetings at Bisley, as well as stalking every year in Scotland; she now confines herself to shooting with a shotgun.
Her first articles appeared in Countrysport and The Shooting Times and, since 7997, she has written solely for The Shooting Gazette. Her previous books and her articles have all been illustrated by Tim Jaques.
